Making the most of the Garden
A 3 storey semi-detached Edwardian property. The structural scheme included the design and specifications for the construction of a single storey basement spanning the full length of the existing property. The basement extends under the rear garden.
Cantilevered retaining walls
The construction of the retaining walls under the main house were designed as cantilevered and under the rear garden with a fixed ground level slab to the top of the walls to control the deflections. The new kitchen area under the garden is flooded with natural light due to two large walkable glazed skylights. A further lightwell was formed to the front of the property providing natural light to the new bedroom.
Large lightwells flood the basement with natural daylight.
Construction
The basement was constructed using underpinning methods and limiting the width of the pins to control deflections to the adjacent property.
