Construction Methods
Croft were appointed to design a large single-storey extension to this 300 year old cottage house. Located in a conservation area, the new extension allowed for a large open plan family space with panoramic views across the village green.
History counts
The original cottage house was made of wood and straw which meant that typical design techniques used for your standard Victorian property would not work. Therefore, we at Croft got creative in using modern design and construction methods to create an aesthetic and compliant design.
Single storey extension that would effectively double the internal area of the two-storey cottage house.
External landscaping
External landscaping design works were carried out. The new outdoor pool to the rear of the property abutted right next to a large embankment since the site was on an incline. Therefore, Croft designed an earthwork retaining wall structure that wrapped around the pool to divert the load and ensure the pool was left uncracked. Working collaboratively with the builders at the beginning meant that the detailed design could be tweaked to better suit the built environment.
