Early Victorian building
The property was originally built as a corner shop. The plans required a modest opening up of the ground floor structure to form an open-plan commercial space and work to the existing basement to increase the headroom.
Basement Impact Assessment
Croft Structural + Civil has the skills and knowledge to provide these complex reports and were employed during the planning process. Croft provided a design that utilised underpinning and concrete retaining walls to the rear, which enabled the floor to be lowered to increase the much-needed headroom.
This project was particularly interesting during construction, as 3 unrecorded vaults were found. These were inspected and our designs were altered to make use of this additional space.
Meeting Planning Conditions
As part of the Planning conditions a Chartered Structural Engineer was required during construction to inspect the works. Croft provided this service ensuring that the building was adequately constructed and propped.
