Open-plan living
We worked closely with the contractor and the project manager on this existing 4 storey Victorian Property which includes ground, first, second and loft level. An existing cellar is also present extending under part of the main front part of the property. The proposed development consists of the construction of a new full length basement beneath the existing footprint of the property and extending out to the rear garden as well as a full renovation of the existing property internally with a new single storey rear and side extension. Temporary works were also provided by Croft for both the superstructure and the substructure works. To the rear steel frames were designed to support the neighbouring party wall during the demolition of the existing rear extension.
Challenges to overcome
An exposed circular column was requested for the new rear extension and Croft were appointed to provide the connection design. We worked closely with the steelwork fabricator to ensure the aesthetics were as requested by the client and the connections were clean.
Let there be light
Communication between all parties was the key to the successful delivery of this project. Covid-19 disrupted everything from the supply chain to site Health and Safety. The outcome, however, was the creation of this beautiful family home with its voluminous and modern interior awash with natural light. No dark and dingy basements here!
