BIA a complex report
Another reconfiguration and refurbishment project with Quartet Architecture comprising four-storey mid-Victorian terraced house located within the Chelsea Conservation Area. Croft Structural + Civil were enlisted at the planning stage to complete a Basement Impact Assessment (BIA) right through to construction.
Creating a light and airy basement
The focus was to enlarge the lower ground floor and increase the overall head height by 2.7 metres, extending the space below the garden to the rear. Consideration was given to a full height glass Crittall screen and door between the kitchen and lightwell, creating a lovely open space flooded with natural light.
It's all in the detail
A feature staircase was also introduced at the ground floor hallway down into the kitchen/dining area, creating a double-height volume and the illusion of being above ground.
